The call has gone out for gnome end of painters to support a fundraising effort for Norfolk Hospice.

Hilgay butcher Ali Dent is appealing for old and unwanted gnomes which he hopes to renovate and then sell on.

So far he has received more than 100 garden ornaments but needs help with his brush work.

Three artists have already joined the ranks but more are needed to transform these gnomes.

Mr Dent said: “I’m really pleased with the response so far. It’s great to have 100 gnomes but we do need more.

“The more we can renovated the more money we can raise for the hospice.”

The fundraising idea has grown from a joke with a neighbour.

He said: “I have one or two gnomes in my garden and the hairdresser next door keeps bringing more.”

Mr Dent is one of the most energetic charity fundraisers in West Norfolk.

He is looking for bands who would be willing to perform at a party in the park which will be held later this year in Hilgay.

This event will be supporting the work of Guide Dog for the Blind.
