That’s Entertainment - December 7

One of the highlights of my week has been a visit to St. Faith’s at Gaywood to see the dazzling Christmas Tree Festival.

It was a truly wonderful sight seeing all 32 trees decorated splendidly and at the same time taking part in the Advent carol service. I am also pleased to report, on the pure entertainment side of things, the King’s Lynn Town Band concert and variety show were well supported.

Helena Anderson’s donation of a lovely watercolour painting of hers was won by Daphne Sampson. The church has a full programme of events, an excellent example being “The Messy Church” (meeting next Friday) for all the family. Contact 01553 774916 (weekdays 9am-12pm) or visit the church’s website: stfaithsgaywoodlep.org.uk for all the details.

Over at The Minster, Lynn, a carol service to raise funds for the work done by the Norfolk Churches Trust will be held tonight. The evening starts at 7pm and consists of carols and readings delivered in great style, no doubt, by the actors John Hurt and Martin Shaw. Lord Dannatt also participates. Tickets are £10 including wine before the event. Contact 01328 701557. or try at the church office.

We must not forget Christmas entertainment provided by the younger generation in West Norfolk and a cracking Christmas Concert will be held on Wednesday at 7pm at Springwood School concert hall. West Norfolk Jubilee Youth Orchestra, under their well-known conductor Rob Galliard, will be providing the Christmas cheer! Admission is free and Christmas refreshments will be available.

Not to be out-done, Lynn’s King Edward Vll High School, is presenting a Night of Musicals starting at 7pm next Friday. The evening, consisting of dance, drama and song is free to the public but donations are welcomed. The night’s going to be a blast so why not pay the school a visit and enjoy a good evening’s entertainment!

King’s Lynn Society of Arts and Sciences has a seasonal meeting when you can “face the music” next Wednesday starting at 7.30pm. Don’t forget the new venue for meetings is Whitefriars Primary School. With seasonal refreshments and the music and readings presented in period costume, a treat is in store. Contact the club’s chairman, Mrs. C. A. James on 01553 775535 for further details.

Now over to Thornham to mention a showing of the eco-thriller The Hunter next Friday, starting at 7.30pm. At the hall the bar opens at 7pm and for £5 the ticket will include mulled wine and mince pies. Contact 07818028687 for tickets. Also, a little further afield why not visit the website of Peckover House at Wisbech for details of their Christmas events: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/peckover

And finally, I notice the Centre Stage Big Band is giving a Christmas concert at Leziate Village Hall on Monday, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets on the door are £5 including interval refreshments. Big Band arrangements and seasonal music will be performed providing plenty of quality entertainment.
