Winning ways...
n Adam: So, last Thursday night was a very big moment. It was the 2012 KL.FM West Norfolk Sports Awards at the Corn Exchange in Lynn and it was awesome!
Every morning I broadcast to thousands and thousands of people across the region and there were only a few hundred at the Corn Exchange last week, so it was weird that it all seemed far more nerve-wracking than doing my show!
I suppose it was because when I’m on air there are only a few others in the room with me, but at the Corn Exchange I was actually face to face with these people. But having a few butterflies in the stomach is good for things like this and it gave me the rush I needed to get out on the stage and have a good time.
The production team decided it would be nice to have some X Factor style pyrotechnics exploding as I went on the stage, which was very flattering, until I realised the only reason why they were using them was because they were reaching the end of their use-by date.
They dropped that bombshell just five minutes before I went on stage so I didn’t have time to rush a life insurance policy through, but thankfully no radio presenters were blown up in the making of the Sports Awards.
n Hannah: Last week just days before KL.FM’s glitzy Sports Award ceremony Adam broke one of the awards. They are heavy and glass with names of the award and the winner engraved on them.
Adam was asked to help carry them into our reception and dropped one of them. It smashed in two.
Now, I’m sure it was an accident but Adam does get himself into holes like this all the time and when he’s in there he just keeps digging.
Instead of trying to sort a new one he set to work on fixing it.
That didn’t go well.
In fact it looked like a toddler had raided the KL.FM stationary cupboard. The next idea was to make all the awards look as bad so no one noticed.
The boss didn’t like that idea so it was scrapped.
The lovely people behind the production and lighting of the West Norfolk Sports Awards offered to softly light that award so the winner wouldn’t notice the cracks. But, Adam’s repair job was so bad that no amount of careful lighting would have helped.
Luckily behind the scenes at KL.FM, the real brains behind the station, our administrator Rose, had explained the situation to the makers of the awards and they put in hours of overtime to make sure we got a brand new and more importantly, whole, Sports Event of the Year award.
