Builders will start to demolish parts of Lynn’s Hillington Square next week as part of a £30 million redevelopment.

Lovells will start to knock down a five storey block, which forms part of Valentine House, on Monday.

The contractor is working with the site’s owners Freebridge Community Housing Association to transform the estate.

The block of nine flats will be taken down in stages with the main section being “nibbled” from the top by a long reach excavator. The final flats which adjoin part of Valentine House, will be brought down by hand.

Freebridge’s Tony Hall said: “The opening up of the estate with this demolition is a very exciting part of a redevelopment that will make a real difference to the area and Lynn as a whole.”

Refurbishment work on Greyfriars and Millfleet Houses is due to finish shortly.
