Volunteer gardener at Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House, Marianne Charles, will be transporting plants to the new site at Hillington in a wheelbarrow tomorrow.

Marianne, of Holme, will be undertaking the journey of around eight miles so that the plants can be used in new beds at the larger site.

The hospice is appealing for more volunteer gardeners who will be needed once the move is complete. Anyone who is able to help should contact Cheryl Harrison on 01485 543163.

Marianne’s journey on foot is one of several trips carried out by hospice supporters in June and July.

Jim Dominy, whose parents live in East Rudham, celebrated beating cancer with a fun and cycle ride in June, recreating one he took 30 years ago when he had recovered. He travelled from Eskdale, where he was working when he was diagnosed, to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, where he was treated, and then onto his parents’. He travelled 120 miles on foot and 300 miles by bike.

A team of five cyclists from Gayton and Great Massingham, brothers, Mark, 40, and Wayne Lockwood, 36, and friends, Richard Waterfield, 40, Karl Harrison, 27, and Will Harman, 17, are today due to finish their 858-mile journey from Land’s End, from where they set out on July 16, to John o’ Groats. On average they were cycling 125 miles a day.

In addition, on Sunday, a group of nine women from Norfolk Coastal Fitness, which is based in Sheringham, will be undertaking a 26-mile Nordic marathon along the North Norfolk Coastal Path.

n Can you boost the Lynn News Help Our Hospice Appeal which aims to raise £25,000 to fully furnish and equip one of the new in-patient beds at the Hillington hospice? Thanks to the generous donation of £100,000 made by an anonymous donor, all funds raised and donations up to that amount will be matched, so a £5 donation becomes £10 for instance.

For more details see the coupon below, which should be sent to Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House, Common Road, Snettisham, PE31 7PF. Please specify that your gift is towards the Lynn News Help Our Hospice Appeal.
