Second World War veterans are being invited to attend a special service and tea party to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day next month.
The service will be held in Lynn’s Tower Gardens on 11am on Saturday August 15 and will be followed by a 1940s-themed tea party at the town’s Conservative Club.
Borough mayor Colin Manning said: “We owe a great to deal those who fought for their country during the war.
“This 70th anniversary of VJ Day offers us an opportunity to say thank you to those veterans. The difficulty for us is knowing how to get in touch.
“We have already contacted the British Legion and RAFA to ask them to assist.
“I would urge anyone who has a family member or is a friend of someone in West Norfolk who served in any of the armed forces during the Second World War to get in touch so that we can make sure an invitation to this historic event gets to them.
“The tea party will be quite an occasion with party food and entertainment representative of the period.
“It is strictly invitation only and we want to make sure we have personally contacted the veterans to invite them along.”
