Armed robbery update: Police issue descriptions of wanted men
DETECTIVES investigating the armed robbery at the Francis Wain jewellery shop in Lynn this morning (Tuesday) have issued descriptions of two men and a BMW car sought in connection with the raid.
The two men entered the Norfolk Street shop, wearing hoodies and with scarves around their faces, at about 9.50am. They were armed with a sledgehammer and what has been described as “a handgun”.
They smashed a window with the sledgehammer and took various expensive items from the displays before getting back into the silver Mercedes people carrier, in which they had arrived, and making off towards Chapel Street.
A vehicle matching the description of the one involved was found a short while later, along with abandoned clothing, in Pilot Street. Police believe the offenders made off from this location towards North Street.
Investigating officers say no shots were fired in the incident, but staff in the shop during the robbery were “shaken but unharmed”. The front shutters remain down at the premises, which has been sealed off while crime scene and forensic officers search for evidence.
The descriptions issued are of two white men. One is 6ft tall, of slim build and wearing a grey two-piece tracksuit and hood, with a white scarf covering his face.
The other is 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall, of average build and wearing a black long-sleeved hoodie, with a grey short-sleeved T-shirt over the top and black trainers with white soles. He was carrying a small JD sports bag.
Police are also investigating the circumstances in which an elderly woman collapsed nearby and needed treatment from paramedics. It is thought to be linked to the incident.
Detective Inspector Stuart Chapman, of Lynn CID, said: “Our inquiries continue and we’d appeal for anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area prior to the incident and also immediately after it to call us.
“We are particularly interested in a silver-coloured BMW that was seen in convoy with the offending vehicle around the area of the town centre prior to and after the incident.
“We are currently looking at CCTV footage, as well as carrying out forensic inquiries and taking statements from various witnesses.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw any suspicious activity before it should contact Lynn CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
