Arrest after security alerts at QEH

A MAN has been arrested following a series of incidents at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital after staff were followed around the hospital car park.

Police are investigating two separate incidents and have arrested a man on suspicion of public order offences. He has since been bailed.

The first incident happened on Wednesday last week at 8.30pm when members of staff were followed by a man as they walked through the car park. As they sped up, the man also increased his speed, however they made it to the car and locked themselves in, but he banged on the windows before they drove off.

The second incident happened the next evening when a staff member was walking home with a friend along Gayton Road while on his phone.

The same man ran towards them but they quickly raised the alarm and he ran off. The man was wearing a dark hoodie covering most of his face and a dark coat.

Patients and staff are asked not to worry but to remain vigilant and avoid walking to or from the car park alone. Security management specialist for the QEH, Gary Morris said: “If you see anything suspicious or are approached, call the police if it is safe to do so.

“Avoid short cuts that take you through poorly-lit areas and don’t wear Walkmans or iPods as you walk. Carry your keys in your hand and hold bags under your arm with the clasp close to your body.”

Any witnesses to these incidents or with further information should contact Lynn police station on 101 (calls cost 15p).
