BREAKING NEWS - Police renew appeals for witnesses to fatal crash near Lynn Mart

POLICE have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to a road accident close to the site of Lynn Mart yesterday in which a three-year-old boy died.

The boy, who has not been formally named, was in collision with a blue Audi A4 on King Street, close to the junction with Ferry Street, at around 5.30pm on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the boy was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with serious head injuries. However, doctors were unable to save him and his death was confirmed shortly after 9pm last night.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward and confirmed the driver of the Audi was helping them with their inquiries.

However, a spokesman insisted that, while they had the motorist’s details, they had not made an arrest in connection with the incident.

They have also dismissed claims made via social networking websites that alcohol had been a factor in the crash, adding it was “absolutely not” part of their investigation.

Meanwhile, officers have also thanked the members of the public who have sent messages of sympathy following the crash. They said all the messages had been passed to the specialist officers liaising with the boy’s family.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who saw the Audi prior to the crash, is asked to contact the Norfolk Police Serious Collision Investigation Team via the non-emergency 101 number.
