Drink-drive ban for moving car across Lynn car park

AN INSURANCE broker got behind the wheel of his car while more than twice the drink-drive limit to move it to a parking space covered by CCTV and landed himself with a two-year ban.

Mark Ashworth, 21, was stopped in Sainsbury’s car park, in the Vancouver Quarter, with 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

He admitted drink-driving at West Norfolk Magistrates Court, in Lynn, on Wednesday. In addition to the ban, which can be reduced by six months on completion of a drink-drive course, Ashworth, of March Road, Welney, was fined £300 and must pay £100 costs.

Yvonne Neill, prosecuting, said police were patrolling near Heights nightclub in the town on December 3 and staff tipped them off that Ashworth was a possible drink-driver.

Ian Graham, mitigating, said: “He meant only to drive to a different side of the car park.”
