Driver, who sped after Ferrari at 120mph in King’s Lynn, just wanted a closer look at the super car, court told
A court allowed a BMW driver who was clocked by police speeding past a Ferrari at 120mph to keep his licence this week.
Craig Hitch was a car enthusiast who had just wanted a closer look at the Ferrari, West Norfolk Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday.
Alan Wheetman, mitigating, said: “The revving of the engine police heard was not in fact from Mr Hitch’s car but from the Ferrari, which had in fact passed Mr Hitch’s car on the A47 and it was one of those special edition Ferraris of the kind Mr Hitch, who is a motoring enthusiast, had not seen before.
“Mr Hitch through curiosity and what he now accepts is absolute stupidity pulled out and followed it hoping to catch it so he could have a closer look at it.”
Hitch, 28, of Ferry Road, Clenchwarton, admitted speeding on the A47 at around 9pm on September 14 and was given six points on his licence and a £300 fine.
David Foreman, presiding magistrate, said Hitch’s actions were “seriously dangerous,” adding: “You are going to get away with six points but if you come back to this court again with anything like that again you wont be looked at so leniently.”
