HILLINGTON: Motorist banned after head-on crash
A motorist was banned after a head-on crash which left another driver with a fractured skull.
Market researcher Karl Murphy admitted a charge of driving without due care and attention when he appeared before Lynn magistrates on Wednesday.
Alan Wheetman, prosecuting, told the court that Murphy’s Suzuki Swift had veered across Fakenham Road, Hillington, and collided head-on with a Nissan Micra on July 1 last year.
The driver of the Micra suffered multiple fractures while Murphy had serious injuries to his arms and chest.
Murphy, 56, of Orchard Park, Hubberts Bridge, Boston, Lincolnshire, told the court that he had been working in Holt when the accident happened. He said: “I saw something in the road which made me swerve.”
But Murphy faced disqualification under totting-up procedures as he had nine points on his licence.
He told the bench that he would not be able to work without his driving licence and also needed to drive to visit his daughter, who had recently been diagnosed with mutliple sclerosis.
Magistrates fined Murphy £345 and banned him for 35 days. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
