KING’S LYNN: Assault lands man in court
A drunk man accidently “bashed” into an elderly woman in a wheelchair and then went on to assault her son when he protested about it, a court heard.
Kwame Yeboah, 29, of Hillington Square, Lynn, appeared before Lynn magistrates on Friday and admitted assaulting Darren Martin in London Road, Lynn, on December 28. He also admitted urinating in a public place on the same day.
Prosecuting, Yvonne Neill, said Yeboah was walking along London Road when he bumped into the woman in the wheelchair, being pushed by Mr Martin.
She said: “Mr Martin called out to the defendant, who turns around and starts to swear.
“He becomes threatening towards Mr Martin and pushes him in the chest.”
Mr Martin reported Yeboah to police and CCTV used to track him down spotted him urinating in Hillington Square.
Ms Neill said Yeboah described himself as “merry” in a police interview, having consumed 10 cans of Stella and Tia Maria, and said he had also taken cocaine and cannabis.
Asked about urinating, he said: “Where I lived in London, everybody does it.”
Unemployed Yeboah was sentenced to an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £15 costs.
