KING’S LYNN: Drunk kicks moped after Christmas row
A man who kicked a moped after a drunken argument with his girlfriend in the early hours of Christmas Day has appeared in court.
Mihai Neagu, 22, appeared before Lynn magistrates on Tuesday and admitted causing criminal damage to the moped on December 25.
Yvonne Neill, prosecuting, said at about 1.45am on Christmas Day, a doorman working at a nightclub in Norfolk Street heard a loud bang and saw the defendant near a damaged moped parked nearby.
She said the moped belonged to Chantell Chandler, who rented it from Dereham moped charity, Kickstart.
Ms Neill said the charity’s insurance company paid for the repair, which cost £130.35.
In mitigation, John McKenna said Neagu had gone out drinking with his girlfriend and they had an argument.
He said: “He was walking back home when he kicked the moped in frustration.
“As soon as he realised what he had done he wanted to apologise to everyone involved.
“He admitted the offence and asked police to give him the name of the person whose property it was so he could pay them to get it repaired.”
Neagu, of King George V Avenue, Lynn, was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £105 costs.
