SWAFFHAM: Phone sex pest makes 465 calls to nine women

A married sex pest who terrorised women with hundreds of perverted and threatening phone calls has been warned he faces jail.

Daniel Andrews, 38, harassed nine women, making obscene and sexually explicit suggestions and even threats to rape, Lynn magistrates heard.

The father of four, of The Oaks, Ashill, near Swaffham, called the victims over nine months using an unregistered pay-as-you-go phone.

The used car salesman also deliberately targeted women who lived near him or had links to his work or school days, the court was told.

Prosecuting, Yvonne Neill, said Andrews made a total of around 465 calls, with varying numbers of calls to each victim.

Seven women received between one and 66 perverted calls, but one victim endured 123 calls and another 182 calls.

Ms Neill said: “Several women received lewd sexual phone calls over various periods of time from a withheld number.”

If the women did not answer or hung up, he would repeatedly ring back, she said.

Several times, he also told one of his victims: “I know where you live, I’m going to come and rape you”.

Andrews was eventually tracked down by police using his vehicle registration after he was seen on CCTV cameras buying mobile phone top-up credit from Tesco in Watton.

Andrews, who has been married for more than 20 years, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday and admitted persistently making nuisance calls between March 1 and December 17 last year. He also admitted stealing four containers from his employer, Freightroute, after police found them during a search of his property.

In mitigation, James Burrows said Andrews had never been in trouble before and was remorseful. “This allegation has caused friction in the household,” he added.

Magistrates said the offence passed the custody threshold but adjourned the case until November 27 for a pre-sentence report looking at all sentencing options. Andrews was released on conditional bail until then.
