Swaffham: Man stole gas from his work
STEALING gas bottles from his employer led to 150 hours unpaid work for Paul Hersee.
At West Norfolk Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, the 45-year-old was also ordered to pay £1,000 compensation to Economy Gas Services, of Bawsey.
Hersee, of Orford Road, Swaffham, was charged with stealing 71 gas bottles worth £2,247. He denied the charge but was found guilty after a trial.
Yvonne Neill, prosecuting, said Hersee was employed as a manager for about 10 months. His employer became suspicious about gas bottles being missing and suspected Hersee was selling them. He set up CCTV to keep an eye on Hersee and fitted a tracking device to his delivery truck.
Tiffany Meredith, for Hersee, said he had not taken full cylinders and sold them “on the side.” He went beyond his authority but did not profit from the enterprise. He was of previous good character and had always worked hard.
