TERRINGTON ST CLEMENT: Stole from mum to pay drug debts
A 22-year-old stripped his mother’s home of more than £700 of jewellery and valuables to pay drug debts, a court heard.
Lewis Riley took a tablet computer, air pistol and camera among other things from his mother’s Terrington St Clement home over a two-and-a-half month period, West Norfolk Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday.
Richard Paterson, prosecuting, said: “He had drug debts and as a result he gave into temptation and stole from his mother.”
Andrew Cogan, mitigating, said Riley appreciated how difficult it must have been for his mother to report the thefts.
He added: “He is now off drugs and wants to get his life back on track.”
Mr Cogan said Riley had moved to Bordesley Green, Birmingham, to distance himself from the problems he had in Lynn.
Riley admitted theft between September 1 and November 16 last year.
He was given a 12-month supervision order with six-month drug rehabilitation requirement and ordered to take part in a victim awareness programme.
