Roy Bentley of 14 Pine Road has put up 'Ugly Fence House' sign in a dispute with his neighbour.

A pensioner has been sentenced for harassing his neighbours about a fence.

Roy Bentley, 84, of Pine Road, South Wootton, admitted harassing John and Irene Laws during a hearing at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court.

He had previously denied the charge which states that between March and September he pursued a course of conduct which included making upsetting, disturbing and insulting comments verbally, using signs and obtaining media coverage.

The charge also included the excessive use of his car horn and leaning and pushing metal poles through the fence.

Mr Bentley, who appeared in the Lynn News in March after putting up an “Ugly Fence House” sign on his garage, was given a two-year conditional discharge. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Magistrates also imposed a restraining order, which prevents him from contacting his neighbours for two years.
