The detective in charge of the investigation into the deaths of two people in Magdalen says he is satisfied it was a “closed incident”.
It comes after the bodies of Stephen Muncaster, 47, and Allison Muncaster, 48, were found at a property in Stow Road.
Detective Superintendent Durham said that the body of a man was found in the front garden and a preliminary search after discovered the body of a woman inside the property.
Police were alerted to the shooting just after midnight by the ambulance service, who had received calls from concerned Magdalen residents.
Family liaison officers have been in contact with members of the pair’s family throughout the day, and police have spoken to a number of people to try to help piece together the background to the incident.
Detective Superintendent Durham said that post-mortem examinations will be conducted so that they will be able to explain to the family what exactly has happened.
He said: “It’s a shocking incident wherever it happens, probably even more so in a small tight-knit community, which isn’t used to having any incidents really, let alone incidents of this magnitude.”
