Carers and dementia sufferers will be able to get out and socialise during a monthly pub lunch thanks to a pioneering new scheme.
Outings to unfamiliar places can be frightening for some people with the condition, which can leave their partners and carers feeling isolated.
But The Chequers in Wimbotsham is working with Norfolk County Council’s social services to create a safe monthly lunch.
Adult care development worker Gemma Liczbinski said: “Carers have told us that they miss doing the things they used to do as couples. Unfamiliar places can be confusing and upsetting for dementia patients.
“This can be isolating and that is the main reason why we are organising this.
“We are hoping to give people an opportunity to socialise with others who are in a similar situation in a safe setting.”
The pub has agreed to set out an area of their pub to host the lunch on the last Thursday of the month. A set menu will be on offer.
The first lunch will be held on Thursday, January 29,
Booking is required and places can be booked up to the week beforehand. The cost is £9.50 for two people or £4.50 for one.
