Last May Docking resident Nicola Durrant saw an item in the newspaper from Tapping House asking if anyone would be interested in cycling 100 miles in the ‘Ride London-Surrey 100’.

Having barely ridden a bike for more than fifteen miles before, Nicola realised she would

need to train hard, and with only have 12 weeks to prepare she set about her training

Her first training miles on a flat local route left her close to tears and her legs screaming at her, but always up for a challenge she joined a friendly local group, Sandringham & West Norfolk Cyclists and with their advice and help along with their Sunday morning social rides her fitness improved and by August she was ready for the event.

She said: I was riding along with thousands of other cyclists the noise and support we received was something I can’t imagine can ever be captured again.

“It is impossible to put into words how the whole event made me feel. The finish at The Mall with the street lined with spectators all cheering was amazing.

“I still have a little bit of money to collect but through the generosity of friends family and clients at Fusion Hairdressers in Hunstanton I got well over the amount I pledged to collect.”

Nicola handed over a cheque for £1,130 to Tapping House on Monday, December 16.

The Lynn News launched a campaign in mid-December to raise £25,000 to pay for a bedroom in the new Tapping House hospice at Hillington – and almost immediately cash started to flow into the appeal coffers.
