The watch manager at Downham says the blaze which has destroyed his station will not stop his crew.
Kim Scotney and nine members of his retained crew tried in vain to get into the Ryston Close building during the early hours of this morning but were beaten back by the flames.
Mr Scotney, who has been serving as a firefighter in the town for 28 years, believes an electrical fault on the fire engine could be cause of the devastating blaze.
He said: “Initially it was just the appliance on fire but once there had been an explosion, the fire went into the roof.
“I am gutted, it is unbelievable.
“We are still providing fire cover for Downham. We may have lost our station but we haven’t lost the cover for the area.
“At the end of the day no-one was hurt.”
