Brave Andrew Bennett, from Downham, overcame his fear of heights by flying in a plane for the first time and then launching himself out as part of a tandem skydive.

The 28-year-old Emcor employee, who works at British Sugar, said the experience on May 19 had now cured his heights phobia. By taking the plunge from the plane, which took off from Ellough, near Beccles, he raised £700 for East Anglian Air Ambulance. He said: “I was very nervous, but it was an incredible experience. When I left the plane we were travelling at 120mph for eight seconds before the parachute went up. Although I used to be frightened of heights, I think I’ve got over that now.” Andrew, of Elizabeth Avenue, is on the committee for the Stradsett Park Rally and the EAAA is one of the charities the event supports.

He also said: “I would like to thank all my family, friends and colleagues for their support.”
