Downham Heritage Society will be holding a table top sale later this month to raise money towards a bid to create a £650,000 museum for the town.
The group wants to refurbish the town’s old Fire Station in Priory Road to highlight Downham’s heritage.
Earlier this year, members received a £386,300 Lottery grant to go towards the project’s costs but are also applying for further grants.
Members have also set themselves the target of raising £12,000 and have organised a table top sale on Sunday, March 23, to go towards that.
Committee member Christine Austin says the group has received £2,519 thanks to donations and table top sales.
She said; “We have been so heartened by the fact that a lot of local businesses have given donation when times are hard.”
Stalls selling books and bric-a-brac will be set up in the Old Fire Station from 9am to noon.
