The opening of a new post office for Downham has been given the stamp of approval following a relocation to a new open-plan branch with even more services available.
Officials have not confirmed when the service will move to its new home in Wales Court, though they have said it will not be until the New Year.
But, once there, they say the post office will offer a range of new products including a large range of cards and stationery retail.
A new quick service layout will also offer services including bill payment, banking, benefits and travel money, postage, home shopping returns and Local Collect.
Regional manager Will Russell said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident this new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.
“The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme enabling us to continue investing in the Post Office network and to map out a bold growth strategy to the end of the decade.”
Postmaster Parvin Begum will also be introducing an extra hour of services each Saturday, thanks to a Post Office terminal which will be working from 9am to 5.30pm.
Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, applying for travel insurance and mobile phones top-ups.
