Residents are being warned to be wary of bogus telephone calls following a report from the Downham area.

An elderly female resident in Boughton received a telephone call on Thursday, January 16, from a withheld number.

The female caller told the resident she was calling on behalf of the police and that any disturbances in the area would not be attended by officers.

She then began to ask the resident about the security arrangements she had at her home. The woman ended the call giving no further details.

Officers would advise residents to not give out any details about their home security and to always ask for identification from unexpected callers.

Residents are urged to report anything suspicious to police using the non-emergency number 101 – if a crime is in progress always dial 999.
