A school’s job is not simply to prepare pupils for exams, but to help them develop into good citizens, ready to make an active contribution to their workplaces and communities in the future.

To reflect that, the Student of the Year award aims to recognise a student who has not only achieved academically at his or her school, but who is also a well-rounded person inside and outside of the classroom.

The category is sponsored by Alive Leisure, the charitable trust which runs all of West Norfolk’s sporting facilities.

The venues under its management include Lynnsport, the St James swimming pool, the Downham Leisure Centre and the Oasis leisure centre in Hunstanton, plus Lynn’s Corn Exchange.

And, as well as the trophy, the pupil chosen as the winner by the judges will receive tickets to the theatre’s Christmas pantomime, Robin Hood, starring former Eastenders actor Shaun Williamson.

Nina McKenna, Head of Programming and Marketing for Alive Leisure, said: “We are so pleased to be associated with the Education Awards as it is fantastic to recognise all the amazing schools, teachers and students we have in this area.

“We are thrilled to be sponsoring the Student of the Year Award to recognise one special student who has shone this year.”
