Pupils enjoyed celebrating Shrove Tuesday with a slight difference at Docking Primary School.

Hidden amongst all the fun and games were links to several aspects of the school curriculum.

Their knowledge of fractions in a maths orientated session involved drawing pancakes and then segmenting them.

Science played a part when they discovered for themselves what happened when the proportions of the ingredients were altered.

But best of all was finding out what a tasty treat whisked-up flour, eggs and milk became when briefly cooked in a hot frying pan.

Most were eagerly eaten but a few were held back for the climax of the day – pancake races in the school playground.

Deputy head, Ruth Chell, said she was grateful to Morrisons Supermarket for donating all the ingredients for the day.
