GAYWOOD: Sports leadership students to visit their US partners

Sports leadership students at the King Edward VII School in Gaywood have jetted across the Atlantic as part of an ongoing partnership between them and an American college.

The party, led by the school’s head of PE Chris Teanby, have travelled to Massachusetts where they were due to attend lectures at the Endicott College in Beverly, around 25 miles north-east of Boston.

The group, who left West Norfolk last Wednesday, were also set to help organise a global games festival for local primary schools and take in trips to a Boston Celtics NBA basketball game, Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team and Boston University.

Speaking before their departure, Mr Teanby said: “Our relationship with Endicott is developing year on year.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience a different sporting environment and develop their leadership skills in another culture.”

Mr Teanby was also due to address a conference of the Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD), which has since been postponed until later this month, during the seven-day trip.
