Youngsters went bananas when they learnt more about Fairtrade, thanks to Sainsbury’s.

The Hunstanton supermarket visited the town’s Redgate Junior School and Infant School during Fairtrade Fortnight recently to teach pupils what Fairtrade means.

Children discovered how the certification gives farmers and workers in the developing world better prices for their products, as well as decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade.

The store’s PR ambassador Darren Burrows said: “Children learnt the reasons why supermarkets like Sainsbury’s get involved in supporting Fairtrade farmers and growers and they asked many questions.”

He also said the store donated Fairtrade bananas and chocolate to the schools for the children to try.

“It went down a treat,” he said.
