Lynn News visits Springwood opportunities fair

“DO you get paid a lot?”, a student at the Springwood High School opportunities fair asked me last Wednesday.
We might think we ask some tough questions of our own, but you can always rely on the youngsters to get to the point when the roles are reversed.
And if that was what I had to face, I can only imagine what any of the other organisations represented had to contend with.
This is the second year that the Gaywood school has organised the fair for its year nine students as they look ahead to choosing their options for GCSE courses this September.
A host of careers ranging from journalism and broadcasting to hair and beauty, the police, the armed forces and veterinary science were represented.
Some wanted to know about how we put pages together, or how to get into particularly areas of journalism, such as sport or fashion.
But it’s fair to say that the chance to try their hand at photography drew rather more youngsters our way.
I recall having a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to do when I was the age of the students who grilled us last week.
But I was lucky. For the majority who aren’t sure yet, an event like this is an ideal place to start thinking about it.
