MIDDLETON: Pupils sign up to world record attempt
Pupils at Middleton Primary school take part in a Guinness World record attempt for singing and signing.
Pupils at Middleton Primary School joined around 150,000 others around the UK in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for signing and singing at the same time.
More than 100 children, and their teachers, lined up in the school hall to sing and sign to a song written especially for the world record attempt, which took place on Wednesday afternoon.
Deputy head, Jacky Steel, said: “Signing is something we use in the school quite a lot, especially in prayers, so all of our children already knew about signing.
“We try to fundraise for a different charity each term and this event was raising awareness for Sign Health.”
The pupils have yet to find out whether they have helped break the world record, but a spokesman for the charity said: “All of the schools now have to send in their paperwork and we will have to go through it to check everything, but we had around 150,000 people sign up and that would be enough to help us break the record.”
