School bus contractor in fumes incident sacked from Marham route
THE coach operator involved in yesterday’s school bus fumes incident has been sacked by from the RAF Marham to Swaffham route.
In a statement issued today, Norfolk County Council said: “The performance of GM Travel has been under review for the past two months. Following our own monitoring and inspections by the Vehicle Operating Standards Agency, we identified areas for improvement including operating procedures, vehicle maintenance and recording, driver training and overall reliability.
“We have been working closely with GM Travel on an improvement plan and have involved Hamonds High School and other interested parties in this process. The company is in a critical period to demonstrate an improvement to the overall operation of six transport contracts provided to the council. The safety of our customers is our primary concern and we were very concerned by yesterday’s incident. We have therefore agreed with the operator to terminate the contract with immediate effect. The journey between RAF Marham and Swaffham will be provided by a new operator from tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22.”
