Pupils, parents and staff braved wet and windy weather when they released a sea of 370 balloons to officially open the new Nelson Academy in Downham.

Every pupil wrote their inspiration for the future on labels before tying them to the green and white balloons and releasing them on Wednesday afternoon.

Principal Louise Ward said: “It was very wet and windy but the children loved it. It’s definitely a day they’ll remember.”

Pupils, and parents who joined in the fun, also received a special cupcake.

The Nelson Academy is a replacement for the former Clackclose Community Primary School, in Downham, and is now sponsored and led by the College of West Anglia (CWA) Academy Trust.
