South Wootton Junior School was forced to close yesterday due to having no heating. About 170 pupils, aged eight to 11, were told to stay at home after a “malfunction” with the heating system.
Headteacher Jonathan Rice and the caretaker went into school at 7.30am yesterday, when the temperature had dropped to around 12C.
Mr Rice said: “That’s too cold for the children so we closed the school. We made the decision early to give parents the opportunity to make arrangements for alternative childcare. The teachers are still here, wrapped up in their coats.”
