South Wootton: Prize toys handed over
South Wootton Infant School pupil Matthew Loft (7) with the educational toys he won for his class from Learning Resources. Pupils celebrate with class teacher Rebecca Burt.
OUR youngest ever Student Writer Matthew Loft was a hit at school when he handed over a donation of literacy toys and aids after he wrote a story.
Teachers at South Wootton Infant School had suggested at a parents’ evening that seven-year-old Matthew try to improve his story-writing skills.
He later set himself the task of writing the Swampsterz Holiday Story and the tale was so enjoyed by Learning Resources of Oldmeadow Road, Lynn, that the organisation decided to sponsor it.
The move meant that Matthew’s class, Ladybirds, were then in line for a number of items to support their story-writing endeavours including a Speaker’s Box, Story Sparkers, Creative Writing Flip Chart and Story Starter Word Cubes.
Each will provide pupils with prompts to help them begin stories and develop writing and verbal skills.
Matthew has now officially handed over the items, as shown.
Head teacher Jo Davenport said that the school was pleased Matthew had taken on board his personal targets discussed at the evening and built on them.
