An elderly woman is critically ill in hospital following a collision with a van in the centre of Lynn on Saturday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Railway Road after the incident, which happened on a pedestrian crossing near the Norfolk Street turning at around 10.10am.

Police say the incident involved a woman in her late 70s and a silver Peugeot van.

The woman was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious head injuries and multiple broken bones. A Norfolk Police spokesman said her condition was critical but stable this morning.

The road was closed for more than four hours, triggering widespread travel disruption for drivers trying to get into town. Delays of up to 90 minutes were reported.

Anyone who saw the incident, or who has information about it, should contact PC Andy Goodway, of the Swaffham roads policing unit, on 101.
