When the RNLI launched the start of SOS fundraising, Emily Darby came up with the idea of having her own SOS day at Smithdon High School, to raise funds for Hunstanton Lifeboat Station, she called it Slice of Sponge day, and asked her friends to persuade their mothers to make a sponge, and donate it to the event, to be sold by the slice.

It was so successful, Emily and her friends raised £100 on the day.

Emily, who is the daughter of senior helmsman Michael Darby, went along to the station on Sunday and presented the cheque to Robin Rafferty, operations manager.
