CAMPBELL’S TOWER BLOWN UP - WATCH VIDEO HERE
ONE of Lynn’s most iconic landmarks, Campbell’s Tower, was blown up this morning in a controlled explosion.
Hundreds of people turned out to watch the last seconds of the tower, which had stood over the town for 52 years.
Lynn News competition winner Sarah Griffiths performed the honours to send the tower on its way. Her father, Mick Locke, died following a steam blast at the former Campbell’s factory.
Crowds watched from the B & Q car park. One on-looker said: “It was just like wallpaper coming down.”
Just click to watch Paul Tibbs’ video of the event.
o To the top right of the front page of this website, there is also a link to a video of a paramotor pilot landing on the tower a few weeks ago.
o ALSO, just for fun, click on the link below for a film posted on You Tube of the tower going back up again!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 01:48 PMThere was no point in having a tower left when the factory has long gone. I worked there for 8 years and met my wife there. The people who worked there do not need the tower to remind them of Campbells.

Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 04:58 PMDon't worry - Norfolk County Council are very generously spending £500 million of our money to replace it with an even bigger landmark.... the Tory Wheelabrator Incinerator Tower!

Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 04:14 PMIt never was iconic it was an eyesore. Nothing could be done with it. Stop this over romanticising clap trap over a brick and concrete chimney. If you want, go and grab a piece of rubble and cry yourself to sleep over it.

Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 11:33 AMWhat a shame such an iconic building had to be brought down, its not going to be the same driving past the hardwick anymore, if thats progress we could do without it, i'm sure there could have been a way to develop around it.
