An investigation has been launched after thousands of pounds worth of tools were stolen from Swaffham’s cemetery.

Police say raiders broke into garages at the Brandon Road site sometime between 4pm yesterday and 9.30am today.

Two Stihl chainsaws, two Stihl multi-tools and sharpening tools are reported to have been stolen.

Town clerk Richard Bishop said the stolen equipment was worth around £2,000 and some damage had been done to the building during the raid.

He said a short time ago: “We’re working frantically to secure the building because they could be back.”

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, or who has information about the incident has been urged to come forward.

Witnesses should contact PC Holly Metcalf, of Dereham police, on 101.
