The first in a series of music and poetry evenings was held at No 8 The Old Bookshop in Downham last Thursday, and it was kicked off in style with a host of local names.

The shop was transformed into an intimate performance venue, where poets Jonathan Toye and William Alderson took to the stage, alongside singer-songwriter Neil Cousin.

Event organisers said it was received very well, and all proceeds were shared between the West Norfolk Deaf Association which runs the shop and West Norfolk Disability Information Service.

The next date is set for Thursday, April 13 with performances from poets Jackie Mulhallen and Carol Ann Wood while the music will be provided by singer-songwriter Isabella Rose Smith.
