A Big Bake pop-up stall in a village near Swaffham at the weekend was piled high with tasty cakes - and it proved to be a winner.

The event, held in Sporle on Saturday, raised £280 for a recently established fund to renovate a dilapidated pavilion and a children’s play area on the village playing field.

It was the idea of friends Andrea Soame, Dawn Boyce and Tina Lambert who baked all the lip-smacking goodies along with a group of friends.

Andrea said: “Our pavilion is used by Sporle FC but it is not fit for purpose. It has been vandalised and it leaks. And the play equipment on the playing field is a mess.

The cake stall was the latest fundraiser and follows a very successful open gardens day, a car rally and barbecue and bingo and quiz evenings.

“So far we’ve raised about £3,000,” said Andrea.

The three friends are working in conjunction with the parish council, owners of the playing field and the pavilion, and the football club.

But the task is a daunting one. The estimated amount needed is £60,000.
