Fakenham’s Christmas lights switch on has been cancelled due to safety fears after today’s gales.
Fakenham mayor Adrian Vertigan said the lights would still go on and they were looking at rearranging the event, which was to have had Christmas stalls, carols and food.
Two hours after the cancellation was announced, the organisers posted on their Facebook page: “We have Postponed the Switch On but should now be Saturday 28th November 2015. More info to follow soon.”

Burnham Market has cancelled its Christmas Fair but will still switch its lights on.
Though the wind has been dying down since about 10am, the Met Office weather warning is still in force and warns that 40-50mph gusts be still occur this afternoon with stronger ones in coastal areas.
The wind has brought down trees across East Anglia and police have urged drivers to take care, especially on rural roads.
A police spokesman said: “Even if its not a tree in the road, you will come across large branches you would want to drive over, then people swerve and get into trouble.”
