A new Friendship Group which is open and inclusive to all is being launched at Gaywood Library next Thursday, September 24.
It is being set up by Gemma Liczbinski, an adult care development worker for West Norfolk, who has been working with the library – and it follows from a successful venture in Downham.
Gemma said: “The ethos behind the group is to form friendships increasing wellbeing and reducing Isolation. There is no formal care provided at the group but hot or cold drinks and warm smiles are in plentiful supply.
“For our launch we have a history talk, a tour through the Bowskills Glass Negative Collection.
“This was donated to King’s Lynn Library by the Bowskill family and the collection covers a vast number of local West Norfolk views and people during the 1900s. Please do ring ahead to book a seat as we want to ensure everybody is sitting comfortably.
“At each meeting there will be an array of different talks or activities such as crafts, glass painting, history, informative talks etc. Hopefully something for everyone.
“There is no pressure to attend each session; people are welcome to come along to sessions that are of interest if this works better for them.
“We are working in partnership with Adult Education to provide some of our activities as well as community and voluntary sector groups who are keen to support us. We also welcome anyone willing to provide an activity or talk to the group.
“The model of this group has been replicated from that of the Downham Market friendship group which has now been successfully running for over a year and still has regular members as well as new faces for new activities.
“Friendships have formed as a result with other groups forming from the original group itself and we hope to repeat this success for individuals in the Gaywood and wider King’s Lynn area.”
Next Thursday’s launch meeting is from 1-2.30pm and a charge for membership at £1 is payable on arrival to cover the cost of activities and refreshments.
The group will then run monthly on the last Thursday of the month at the same time.
