German visitors think Lynn is "lovely"

WHEN work was slack in England for builder Peter Dennis, he decided to do the Auf Wiedersehen Pet "thing" – and go and work in Germany instead.

This decision in the 1990s has helped him build firm friendships in the

country – and German friends have now paid a visit to him in West Norfolk.

Mr Dennis (50) of Northgate, Hunstanton, first went to Germany with

his brother, Graham, in 1994, to work, in a move similar to that made by the characters featured in the hit television comedy-drama series Auf Wiedersehen Pet, which was about a group of seven British migrant construction workers living and working on a German building site.

Mr Dennis returned for two more years, striking up firm friendships in

the town of Rodalben with construction worker Peter Lindacher, shoe factory worker Reiner Anstett and owner of the Spiegelbrunnen bar Axel Hollerith.

This trio flew into Stansted airport on Thursday and, staying at the Le

Strange Arms, Old Hunstanton, have since enjoyed trips to Sandringham and along the coast, as well as Lynn which they visited on Saturday.

They were due to fly back on Sunday.

Mr Dennis, who now works for T M Browne of Terrington St Clement, said

he had regularly visited Germany in recent years, his wife even being invited to open the Grunesputsche festival in 2007.

The German trio had been particularly interested in all things to do with the sea, said Mr Dennis, as they lived 1,000 kilometres inland, ten minutes from France.

They had thoroughly enjoyed their trip to West Norfolk, Mr Lindacher

saying: "It is lovely."
