Children and staff at a Sutton Bridge playgroup have every reason to be in high festive spirits after some good news from Ofsted.
Sunbeams Playgroup was judged as good in all areas after an inspection last month, a huge improvement from its satisfactory grading in May 2012.
The playgroup, based in a purpose-built mobile classroom at Westmere Primary School, has more than 60 children aged two to four and nine staff.
Inspectors praised staff for having a “very good knowledge” of keeping children safe, high teaching standards and strong relationships with parents.
Coordinator Heather Church said: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the report, especially in regard to the fact that we only opened our room for two-year-olds in September, allowing us to cater for children younger than we ever have before.
“There’s a very happy atmosphere here and we have some more children starting with us after Christmas.”
The playgroup just missed out on an outstanding grading because Oftsed believed that its story times needed more involvement from the children.
Heather said: “The inspector felt the children should talk more at story time and we’ve already decided to do it differently by having smaller groups where they can do that.
“Therefore, we don’t believe there’s anything that can stop us getting an outstanding judgement next time.”
The report said: “The good quality of teaching has a very positive effect on children’s care and education.
“Partnerships with parents are strong and they are provided with good levels of information about their children’s progress.”
