Smithdon High School at Hunstanton has recently received a start-up grant of £1,000 for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
There is already a large group of Gold students at the school who are completing their award. The group will be visiting the Peak District at the end of this month to complete the residential element of the award. A spokesman for the students said: “We did not know what to expect when we signed up for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. It has really tested us as a group, but we were surprised by what we achieved. Everything we have experienced, from unsightly landmarks to struggling with climbs at Gunnerside Gill, has made us much closer as a team.”
The school have thanked Penny Dossetor and Paul Hoey for organising the start-up grant. The money will be used to purchase kit items for students undertaking the Bronze Award over the coming months. Gold students are pictured above receiving the £1,000 cheque.
