A community car scheme is putting out an appeal to find more volunteer drivers.
The Great Massingham Area Community Car Scheme helps residents who do not have access to other forms of transport to carry out vital tasks such as attend medical appointments, go shopping, pay bills, participate in community events and to visit family and friends.
Despite growing demand for the scheme it is currently eight drivers short. The current situation means the group will struggle to provide a fully dependable service unless it can find more help.
Group chairman, Mike Jackson, said: “The demand for the service continues to expand and due to the lack of drivers we really are stretched at the moment. All drivers are fully reimbursed fuel and other running costs so they would never be out of pocket. Drivers are always free to decline invitations to take trips.
“The service provides a lifeline for many local people helping them to attend important appointments and allowing people to avoid isolation and remain independent.”
