The children of Heacham Infant and Nursery School had some very special visitors on Tuesday when local firefighters came to meet pupils.

The men from Heacham Fire Station were there to talk to them about first safety. The children got to sit in the fire engine and put on the helmets.

The picture above shows the entire school gathered in the playground in front of the fire engine. At the front is firefighter Sandy Richardson.

Heacham is one of the retained fire stations that is under threat of closure at present by proposals before Norfolk County Council. A local campaign has fought hard to keep the station open.

A public consultation on the council’s budget proposals, including on the future of the Heacham fire station, ends at midnight tonight.
