Community leaders have been urged to do more to promote free health checks that are available to residents.
People aged between 40 and 74 can take part in the Norfolk County COuncil-promoted initiative which gives patients the chance to undergo a free 30 minute health check once every five years.
But Swaffham town councillors were told during their monthly meeting on Wednesday that only around half of the availabe checks had been taken up.
And Paul Smyth, the town’s county council representative and chairman of the authority’s communities committee, admitted the take-up was far too low.
He said: Please do encourage people to use that opportunity. Ask your GP about it.”
The checks are being offered at dozens of doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies around the area.
